VARSITY 1
The Varsity 1 team defeated Vianney, 8-4, to claim their third cup in as many years. Vianney jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but Howell tied the contest with a goal from Chase Kozma at 4:09 and Thomas Fair put the Viking ahead to stay with 2:20 left in the 1st.
Howell extended the lead with a pair of goals from Brady Price in the second half, extending the lead to 4-1. Vianney scored to make it two goal game at 10:43 before Jason Williams added a pair of goals to extend the Vikings lead to 6-2. Alex DeGroat added a power play goal putting the game out of reach at the 2:36 mark, before Williams capped off the game with his third goal at 1:23.
C TEAM
Howell's C team defeated Fort Zumwalt South, 5-4, in a tightly contested match. The Vikings found themselves in an unfamiliar position, falling behind 2-0 early in the first period. Nate Angelo got the Vikings on the board with an unassisted goal at 13:48. Cole Keller found the back of new twice to put Howell ahead 3-2, but South answered back two goals of their own, taking a 4-3 lead into the second half.
South opened the scoring in the second frame, extending their lead to 5-3, before the Vikings offense found its footing. Angelo added his second goal, bringing Howel back to 5-4. Keller tied the game with his third goal the game near the halfway point of the final frame. Lilli Christiansen provided the game-winner with just 2:27 remaining. Oliver Playford tallied the insurance score with 1:24 remaining to secure the 7-5 win.
JUNIOR HIGH 2
The Junior High 2 team scored six unanswered goals in route to their championship win against Rockwood Summit, claiming an 8-4 victory.
The Vikings featured a balanced scoring attack with seven players contributing to the win. Andrew Hill opened the attack with an even strength goal at 16:03 in the first. Jacob Roche, Carter Donaldson, Carter Dettmer, Collin Hodges and Oliver Playford continued the scoring, each netting a goal in the first period. Howell held a commanding 6-0 lead before South tallied two late, first-period goals.
Fort Zumwalt tallied the opening goal of the second period, cutting the Vikings lead in half at 6-3, but the Viking were never challenged in the second half. Nolan Manzella added a goal at 14:51 to return the four goal advantage and Carter Dettman finished the scoring for FH with his second of game, securing the 8-4 victory.
