Chaminade offensive blitz stuns Vikings
The Francis Howell Vikings found themselves facing a tough Chaminade Red Devils team Friday night at the St. Peters Rec Plex. Both teams entered the contest highly ranked in the Top 10 of the MYHockey rankings for the state of Missouri, but Chaminade's offense blistered Vikings goaltender Easton Bristow with 41 shots on goal enroute to a 6-2 victory.
Chaminade put three goals up in the first period, and two more in the second before the Vikings found the back of the net. Junior Charlie Jackson scored his 5th goal of the season, unassisted, when he slipped shot past the Red Devil goaltender from the face off dot with 4:01 left in the second period.
Senior Riley Wright provided the Vikings' final tally in the contest with a highlight reel goal midway through the final period. Taking the puck at center ice and breaking in, tangled up with a defender, Wright pushed a shot past the goalie while sliding prone on the ice for his seventh goal of the season and it was 5-2 Chaminade.
The visitors added a late goal at the buzzer, giving Chaminade the 6-2 victory.
Francis Howell will honor their nine graduating seniors Saturday night when the Vikings (10-3-0) host the Liberty Eagles (7-1-2) at the St. Peters Rec Plex. Pregame activities will begin at 6 pm for the seniors and their families, open to the club membership at 6:30 in the lower level meeting room at the Rec Plex. On-ice recognition will start just prior to the start of the 8 pm game.
