Vikings top Pioneers 4-1
After having their winning streak snapped last week against Marquette, the Francis Howell Vikings found their offensive stride Saturday night, knocking off Duchesne 4-1.
Senior Assistant Captain Caleb Bridges put Howell on the board with 10:20 left in the first period with an unassisted goal, his third of the season.
Duchesne answered with just 1:25 left in the first period, tying the game, 1-1. Senior goalie Jack Finch turned away the next 16 shots, combined with a smothering Vikings defense, to secure the win.
The second period scoring saw Senior Danny Del Vecchio, with a nifty poke check in the offensive zone, outrace the Duchesne defender, and shoot the puck stick side for the eventual game-winning goal, his fourth of the season.
Freshman Mason Land added his fourth goal of the season with 2:30 left, assisted by Junior Defenseman Cole Keller to put the Vikings up 3-1. Senior Captain Riley Wright added an empty net goal, unassisted, to finish the scoring for Howell. The goal with 1:24 left was Wright's sixth goal of the season.
Francis Howell (9-2-0) will host the Francis Howell Central Spartans (2-7-2) Monday night at the St. Peters Rex Plex. Game time is 9:10pm.
