Vikings win thriller over Duchesne

After 44:50 of Saturday night's game against conference rival Duchesne, it looked like the two teams were going to finish a goaltending duel in a scoreless tie. As the Pioneers tried to clear their defensive zone after turning away a late Vikings push, junior Brayden Brandhorst's poke check just inside the blue line put the puck on his stick with just :08 left in the game. He drew the two defenders to the near circle, turned and found junior Will Peterson in the slot and Peterson found the back of the net with 3.3 seconds left in the game giving Francis Howell the 1-0 victory. The goal was Peterson's 5th of the season, while Brandhorst picked up his 10th assist.

The game featured outstanding goaltending on both sides. Senior Easton Bristow picked up the shoutout win, his 6th shutout of the season, turning away 18 shots. The Duchesne net minder, Quinn Meyer, turned away 31 of the 32 shots he faced.

Francis Howell (13-5-0) will host Fort Zumwalt North (2-14-0) on January 19 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.  Game time is 9:10 pm.
